    Christmas at CHKD

Well, it's now the day after Christmas. Christmas itself was a rather low-key event, though we had a good time.

CHKD provided a bunch of toys for us to put out for Cole, and we brought a few of the more transportable ones from home (his new train table turned out to be too big to bring in the room, go figure!). Consequently, when Cole woke up we had a bunch of toys piled on the end of his bed. Cole was quite impressed and took to opening his presents straight away. He was quite enamored of Hungry, Hungry Hippos and a firetruck and airplane that you can take apart with a screwdriver.

Late in the afternoon, my mom brought Christmas dinner (once again all the food was provided by our neighbors, bless them all) and we pigged out while singing carols to Cole. Cole, in turn, sang us the theme song from Little Einsteins.

Cole continues to run periodic fevers, especially at night, but thus far the doctors don't seem very concerned about that. He's still receiving 2 antibiotics by IV, though they may discontinue the Vancomycin tomorrow.

There's no definite end to our hospitalization, unfortunately. Cole has to be fever free for at least 24 hours, and we may opt for 48 hours just to be safe. We definitely don't want to bounce back in here again once we do go home.

In the back of my mind is lurking the fear that there is something else that didn't get cultured and that is only being partially treated, though I can't imagine what it might be. Hopefully, this is just the baseless fear of a father for his child.

Pray that Cole's fevers stop and that his infection is treated fully. Also pray for strength in this continued hospitalization, as we've now been in the hospital for almost 2 weeks. We're all holding up relatively well, all considered, but it never hurts to pray for what you know you'll eventually need.

Merry day after Christmas to you all, and a happy New Year!

Merry Christmas to the entire Rollins Family from the Langston Clan. Mike, I am contiunally impressed and blessed by your transparency displayed by the blog. It provides such a non obtrusive way for us, those who are praying continuously for you all, to keep a pulse on the events there in Norfolk. It is AMAZING to read your words and see the grace by which you stand and communicate. Three years ago I am not sure you would be so willing to let others bless you with prayers, food, and other forms of support. I have often felt in the most trying times of own struggles that God and His presence was no where to be found. Everytime I have looked back, it was not that He was not there. He was closer than ever. I pray for you and your family daily. Pray that the days to get home are closer and without complication, days to full remission are consistant without surprises, days to the wonderful memories we long for as we watch our healty little boys grow into men via our parenting. God Bless you, keep you and rest in His peace. Love JL

Dear Rollins Family. I saw a posting from NormaJean on FaithFreaks, about your sweet Cole. My heart and prayers are with each of you. The pain that Cole and all of you are going through is a very heavy burden of sickness that has been laid on you to have to deal with every day. I pray that God will continue to send his Holy Spirit to Comfort you and guide every Doctor and staff to help Little sweet Cole. May God's Holy Spirit be with each of you and meet all your needs and bless you abundantly for his Glory in Jesus Name! Amen & Amen!I will continue to keep you in my prayers. In His Love, Rose

Mike and Dalynn, I spoke with Lisa tonight and got the latest update about the protein. I know that the last thing you needed was another complication. Just know that we are praying for wisdom for the docs, healing for Cole, and a whole lot of grace for you. I know it is so discouraging to have yet another "something" to worry about, another bump in the road to Cole's healing. According to Beth Moore and others, God often seems silent or may even say no, so that he can grant a greater yes. When Cole is well, we'll all know God healed him. Just remember, God is sovereign, He's still on His throne, and He holds you all with His righteous right hand. He loves you even more than we do, and that's a whole bunch. Suzanne and Herb
